What is Nova2010?
On July 11, 2011, public transit service in Tallahassee undergoes a major change. On that day, StarMetro launches Nova2010 – the most comprehensive overhaul in the system’s history.
This change brings many improvements to public transit in Tallahassee. Here are just a few:
- Better Transfers: For years, all cross-town trips required you to travel through C.K. Steel Plaza. That is no longer the case. Now, you’ll be able to transfer from one bus to another at multiple locations throughout Tallahassee, significantly reducing your travel time.
- Increased Frequency: If you’ve ever missed your bus, you knew that you might have to wait as much as an hour for the next bus to come by. With the launch of the new system, StarMetro buses will run on increased frequencies which means you’ll wait less to catch the next bus. This also means you’ll have more choices in when and how you travel.
- Going Where You Need To Go: As part of StarMetro’s decentralization process, extensive community listening sessions and surveys were conducted to find out where people needed and wanted to go. The new system reflects those needs. Nova2010 will allow Tallahassee commuters to travel to employment, shopping, and recreational opportunities that, until now, were underserved.
- Names, not Numbers: One of the changes you’ll recognize immediately is that bus routes will no longer be referred to by number. Instead, routes will be referred to by name. So, if you take Route 80X to get from Killearn to the Capital Circle Office Center, now you’ll take the Red Hills Route. And, by the way, that route will now travel along Capital Circle NE, providing more direct access to Southwood and the CCOC.
StarMetro Website and Phone Number
To help familiarize you with the new system, StarMetro has posted a host of information on its official nova2010 website. This includes tutorial videos, an overview of the new system as well as individual routes, and important information about night and weekend service. You can also contact StarMetro by phone at 850-891-5200.
Other Options to Consider
With an undertaking this big, it’s possible that some current bus riders may experience a dramatic change to their use of StarMetro. In order to accommodate the new routes and increased frequencies, some bus stops will be moved to new locations further from your home. Check to see if your current route is being affected by visiting StarMetro’s website.
If these changes make it difficult for you to continue riding the bus, consider carpooling. This is a great option for work commuters, and Commuter Services can help you identify neighbors and co-workers who might be willing to share the ride. You can complete an online ridematch request or call 1-888-454-7433.
Go from Car Free to Carefree!
If you ride StarMetro, the Gadsden Express, carpool, vanpool, bike, and/or walk to work at least 3 days per week, you qualify for Commuter Services of North Florida’s free Emergency Ride Home Program. This program provides you with a free taxi ride home when emergencies arise and you’ve given your car the day off.
Need an example of how it works? Well, if an emergency arises and you’re at work without easy access to your personal automobile, this program provides a taxi ride home at no cost to you. That way, you’ll never have to worry about being without your personal automobile. Some restrictions do apply, and you must pre-register to become an eligible participant in the program. Visit the Emergency Ride Home Program section of this web site for more information.
