There are a couple different ways for carpoolers to equally share the financial costs of a carpool. Some choose to take turns being the driver. Others have a consistent driver and the other members each pitch in for gas. If you fall into the second group and find it a little tricky to calculate what each person owes, here’s an app for iPhone and iPod touch that may help you out.

Carpool Cost Splitter lets you input the vehicle MPG, the current gas price, the total miles traveled, and the number of people in your pool to easily calculate what each person owes.

Carpool Cost Splitter

You can download Carpool Cost Splitter for $0.99 from the Apple iOS App Store.

StarMetroOn July 11 StarMetro (@ridestarmetro) will commence its route decentralization plan known as Nova2010. This will radically alter its existing system. Plan ahead! Find out how your route will be affected by the changes now so your daily commute won’t be interrupted.

Also, if you’ve never used the transit system in Tallahassee because the routes weren’t convenient for you, now would be a good time to reconsider. With gas prices as high as they are you might be able to save a lot of money simply by changing the way you get to and from work each day!

Plus, anyone who takes the bus to work at least three days each week qualifies for one of our Emergency Ride Home vouchers. If you find yourself stuck at work because you missed the last bus of the day or you have an emergency that simply can’t wait, use your voucher for a free taxi ride home. You can even use it for two destinations, so should you need to pick up your sick child at school you can use that same voucher to get you the rest of the way home. Sign up for the Emergency Ride Home Program today!

Fuel Price Survival Guide

Since mid-February, gas prices in the Tallahassee area have increased an average of $.43 or 14%. This translates into higher commuting costs for most people. In turn, higher commuter costs means less money in your pocket. In response, Commuter Services of North Florida has created a Fuel Price Survival Guide. In it are some simple, economical, and environmentally responsible actions you can make to your daily commute that will more than offset the rise in fuel prices.

To view this resource (or download it as a PDF), visit the Fuel Price Survival Guide on our website.
